Midway Contemporary Art is a nonprofit organization that supports the creation of and reflection upon visual art. Midway facilitates significant new developments in the field and presents audiences with intimate access to visual culture.
Midway Contemporary Arts Gallery has purchased an existing building (a former Limousine Garage) to renovate into an art gallery. The existing facility is a two-story structure with a single level on grade, and a second level elevated above grade with access from an existing stair. The building currently also holds four retail units with two units at grade level, and two elevated units.
The renovation into an art gallery is envisioned to occur in two phases. The first phase will remove a portion of the flooring of the second level to create a double height gallery space, with a mezzanine housing office and additional galleries on the west end of the building, and a small storage mezzanine over a workshop on the east end. Phase 1 also includes the removal of the exterior stair, renovated windows and doors, the addition of accessible restrooms, and insulation of the exterior walls in addition to preparing the structure for phase two which includes wall reinforcement and a foundation and pit for an elevator. Phase 2 will begin once fundraising has been achieved, and will expand the building to house a library, artist residences, and rooftop gathering spaces. Final site improvements will be included in Phase 2.
